You read correct. This is a bit of a rant; just to warn you.
As many of the knitters/ crafters out there are aware, the IOC has decided to crack down on Ravelry's little friendly games, up til now known as the "Ravelympics". Apparently the IOC has nothing better to do just over a month before the Summer Games 2012 start in London, but to nitpick over a bunch of crafters (Ravelry, for those not involved, is a wonderful site devoted to knitters, crocheters, spinners and weavers and our games reflect all fibery aspects) challenging themselves to complete and/or finish projects during the Olympic Games. It is a fun way to cheer on the spirit of the Olympics, as Ravelry is an international community and our various and sundry teams reflect that. The Ravelry Games (a new name is in the process of being chosen) are about challenging ourselves and promoting good craftsmanship, friendly competition and most comradery. Isn't that what the Olympic Games themselves are supposed to be about?! But no, we're being forced to change the name and I don't think I'm the only one who has a very bad taste left in their mouth with regards to the whole incident. Admittedly, I'm not much of an Olympics watcher/supporter. I like to hear how certain countries are doing or who won a specfic medal but that's about it for me. This year, I don't think I can bring myself to care that much. Which is unfortunate because the athletes and coaches have nothing to do with this idiocy. Even the nations being represented have nothing to do with this decision. This is someone on the IOC with their knickers in a twist.
Which makes me wonder about another fiber related game that is connected with Ravelry and it's future. Will the organizers of the "Tour de France" bicycle race have a similar hissy fit about the spinning competition known as the "Tour de Fleece"? Or are those organizers a more sane and rational group who see the friendly aspect and fun inspired by it?
Alright; I'm getting off my soapbox now.
I will be writing a regular post soon, dear readers. There's been a minor upheaval in recent weeks between the show in St. John's (Wow, what a night!!!!) and the move to the new apartment plus working... Soon, friends I will update you on all and sundry.

Read All About It!
So, I noticed that there's a new tool on blogger: a translation bar. I've added it just above my twitter updates and tags list. Now my blathering can be read in many languages!
On to more interesting news: Alan Doyle (GBS frontman and all-round nice guy) saw the release of his solo album, "Boy on Bridge" yesterday. May I just add my own congrats on top of all the others? It's really good and available on iTunes. He tweeted last night that it reached the iTunes Canada third spot :) Awesome job. Have to say there are certain songs that have really caught my ear, so I recommend checking out: "I've Seen a Little" (it's a rocker), "My Day" (a reggae feel), "Perfect Excuse" (another rocker), "Where the Nightingales Sing" (beautiful waltz), "Belong" (accapella OMG!)... Okay, just check out the whole album and decide for yourself what you like. I firmly believe that you'll like at least one song on this album, unless the only thing you listen to is rap. Then you're out of luck.
On the knitting front: Roomie's Sis liked the sweater and booties knit by moi :) So glad she did; I really wasn't sure how they'd be recieved even though Roomie assured my her Sis would like them. But I'm a worrier. Anyway, no cause to worry; gift received and liked :)
Back to my own knitting: the Aquaphobia socks and the Daydreams in Lace jacket. And getting my Ravelympics projects queued, tagged and put in order. I've decided to lead off with the "Wingspan" (project to be named Wings of Victory) for TeamBob (Group: For the Love of Bob). I have some lovely KnitPicks Shadow that I think will look fabulous. Or maybe I'll get to a yarnstore when me and Roomie head into Town in June. Probably not though as time is a little pressed. I digress. The second project I have lined up is "Square Feet" (haven't come up with a name yet) for TeamNL2012 (Group: Newfoundland and Labrador Crafters). It's a cute pair of socks.
Now how's this for tying together two things I love: the Ravelympics start on July 27 at 4pm NDT and end on August 12. Me and Roomie will be heading to Torbay, NL on August 4th to see Jimmy Rankin, The Trews and Great Big Sea in concert for the Torbay250 celebrations. Who is going to be KIPing as close to the front of the audience as she can get? I'll let you figure that out...

Tuesday is Saturday This Week
By that I mean: I have Tuesday and Wednesday off, so this is my weekend lol
Minor knitting update: the sweater and bonnet for Roomie's nephew-to-be are finished :) Now to work on the Aquaphobia socks and get them finished up.
Ravelympics 2012: The events list is up!!!! I have queued two projects, complete with tags, for the start. I'll be working on a "Wingspan" shawl in the Shawl Sailing event for Team Newfoundland/Labrador 2012 and a pair of "Squarefeet" socks in the Sock Put event for Team Bob. I managed 3 projects (worth 7 medals!!) in 2010 so we'll see what happens :) C'mon July 27!!!!! I want to cast on!!!!!
In other news, I'm going to go stark-raving mad if the people upstairs don't stop their constant noise. A child should not be crying for hours on end; stomping on the floor when you have people below you is just rude; it's not too much to ask that the yelling and swearing be kept to a minimum, is it? I digress. *sigh*

Ravelympics Sign-ups!!! New Music!!! And Knitting!!! Oh My!!
It's 2012 and that means it's an Olympic year. Even more importantly though, that makes it a Ravelympic Year :) After all the fun I had bringing home seven medals for Team Bob in 2010, I've thrown my hat (as it were) in and have signed up to represent not only Team Bob but Team Newfoundland and Labrador as well :) It's going to be a great Ravelympics!! Now I have to start going through my queue and hope the events list is posted soon; I want to get tagging!!!
In music news, Roomie bought Dean Brody's new cd, Dirt, yesterday. It's really wonderful. Seriously fabulous. Top picks for me are "Canadian Girls", "It's Friday" (which features this little East-coast band you've probably never heard of; they're called Great Big Sea ;) ) and the title track "Dirt". Really excellent. Check it out if you have a chance.
In knitting news, I started the baby sweater for Roomie's nephew last night; I have the yoke and sleeves done already! I forgot what a quick fix knitting baby things is. I'm using a new yarn from Bernat called "Giggles" and I really like it. It's a soft yarn in baby colors but it's a worsted weight so you don't have to use it doubled. I'm using my 'go to pattern' from the November 1997 issue of McCall's Needlework and Crafts. It's a top down baby sweater, bonnet and booties set. Really cute.
